Piperia elegans

Another native California orchid, Piperia elegans, elegant piperia. This was one on Montara Mountain.

    I thought orchids were large delicate hothouse flowers in beautiful colors.

    The native ones around here are usually small, scrubby, spiky, and parasitic.
